Weeping at the Tomb
“Mary stood weeping outside the tomb” (John 20:11).
How many times, Lord, have we lived through that same desolation?
We weep for what seems dead, hopeless, beyond repair.
We weep for those we love, for those who have drifted away, for those who suffer hunger or loneliness, for the marginalized, for the victims of injustice.
There are moments when human pain and the chaos around us cloud our hearts. Even Jesus wept.
He wept for the pain of humanity, and His tears continue to console those who, like Mary Magdalene, remain by the tomb.
“Why are you weeping?”
“Why are you weeping? … Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him” (John 20:13).
When the heart is wounded, our vision becomes clouded. Sadness has the power to distance us from the Master. He is near, and yet we do not recognize Him.
Desolation acts like a magnet that throws off our inner compass. It distracts us from truth, distances us from hope, and blinds us to the Risen One drawing near.
In the midst of pain, Jesus reveals Himself with a single word:
“Mary!”
“Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, ‘Rabboni!’” (John 20:16).
He calls us by name. In His voice there is tenderness, promise, and new life.
Mary Magdalene heard her name—and everything changed.
Tears turned to joy, the tomb became an altar of hope, and the darkness was illuminated by the certainty of love that conquers death.
Christ is alive, and even today He calls you by name.
He seeks you as He sought Mary—with faithful love, infinite patience, and the joy of one who finds a beloved friend.
The Commission: Share the Good News
“Go to my brothers and say to them…” (John 20:17).
The experience of the Risen Lord does not end in the encounter.
It becomes mission.
Jesus not only comforts—He sends.
Today, just as with Mary Magdalene, the Lord calls you to be a witness.
To you and to me, He entrusts the mission of proclaiming to the world the message of resurrection, of new life, of the hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5).
He asks us to be His instruments, so that others may hear Him call them by name.
Personal Prayer
Imagine Jesus saying your name… and respond with this prayer:
My Good Shepherd,
I long to live in consolation, to always choose You, to love and adore You in the joy of Your Holy Spirit.
I want to seek Your face and walk in the joy of the resurrection.
I desire to proclaim to the world that Your grace is enough, that You turn sorrow into eternal joy and grant the peace that surpasses all understanding.
I give You thanks, Father, for sending Your Son;
to You, Jesus, for accepting the mission of the Incarnation;
and to You, Holy Spirit, for Your grace that strengthens my faith, my hope, and my love.
Thank You for Mary Magdalene, faithful disciple,
who teaches us to seek Your face and to share the joy of encountering You, the Risen Lord.
Amen.
